a news crew literally got robbed of its camera equipment while filming a story. this is brazil-tier shit - SF is in a state of partial collapse right now:

An NBC news crew was reporting on the ground in San Francisco. Then robbers stole their camera.

A news crew with NBC Bay Area was on the ground in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood Saturday evening.

Then, two individuals in a Lexus pulled up, San Francisco police said, claiming to brandish a weapon underneath their clothes. They demanded the crew hand off their cameras and sped off. None of the crew members were injured.

Authorities were then able to locate the car involved in the robbery — the news crew had saved the license plate number — and detained two individuals inside, a 20-year-old and and a 15-year-old boy. They were released at the scene, pending a police investigation.

Officers also traced a white Honda related to the robbery. They found the professional-sized camera in the backseat through the windshield — and a camera involved in a separate robbery earlier that day in the Mission, police said. Its occupants, 18-year-old Ronnell Johnson and 21-year-old Romell Boyland, were arrested.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Boyland was also charged with the same, as well as a probation violation for a prior aggravated assault case.

from a new study of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the US, measured by violent crime per capita.

4. San Francisco: Block group delimited by Division St. / 9th / Brennan / 10th / Bryant / 11th St., Harrison St., 6th St., and Townsend St.

Predicted violent crimes per year: 296

Predicted violent crime rate: 298 crimes per 1,000 residents

The details: “This block group crossed by Highway 80, located downtown San Francisco, comes fourth in our ranking,” says de Bonviller. “In spite of a high median household income of $158,958 per year —which is more than 97% of U.S. block groups—it is considered as a high risk because of high violent crime count and violent crime rate. Some associated factors include a high percentage of males in the area (61%), and a relatively low median age (lower than 77% of the U.S. block groups), and a high number of households earning less than $10,000 a year in the neighboring block groups (more than in 98.4% of the U.S.). This block group is also characterized by a high predicted property crime rate.”

7. San Francisco: Block group delimited by Market St, Powell St, Bush St, and 1st St.

Predicted violent crimes per year: 227

Predicted violent crime rate: 247 crimes per 1,000 residents

The details: “This block group including Union Square in San Francisco, CA comes seventh in our ranking, in spite of a relatively high median household income ($66,667, a bit higher than the national average in the ACS Survey),” says de Bonviller. “Violent crime in this area is associated with a high property crime prediction, as the area figures among the 10 block groups with the most property crimes predicted in the United States.”

8. San Francisco: Block group delimited by Turk St., Taylor St., Ellis St., Powell St., and Market St.

Predicted violent crimes per year: 242

Predicted violent crime rate: 203 crimes per 1,000 residents

The details: “Households surveyed in the 2014-2018 ACS in this block group had a $20,583 annual median household income, among the lowest 3% in the U.S.,” says de Bonviller. “60% of the 16+ population was not in the labor force (highest 4% in the U.S.). 66% of the surveyed population was male (highest 2%), with a median age of 55.1 years (highest 6%).”

Generally yes. There are nice neighborhoods like Noe Valley that are even family-friendly, but lol at subjecting yourself to the openly hostile policies of the city’s/county’s leadership. Unless you’re gay, a childless couple making a ton, single and in your 20s when all you care about is work and walking to bars, or super-wealthy Pac Heights people who can pay to have others deal with the reality, I don’t see why anyone lives in the city.

yes. if you have tons of money you can avoid the worst of it (live in pac heights or the marina, work and play in financial district / north beach) and uber everywhere. but it's a really weird version of city living. if you don't mind cooler weather, there's incredible natural beauty. but the people, educational system, and transit are horrific and can't make up for it.

marin offers much better living

Lived in San Francisco for 4 years. It's the most geographically beautiful city in the country, and due to the small land size, mostly only wealthy people (or those subsidized by the state or homeless) can afford to live there, and thus, at least before Covid, it resulted in this majestic experience where mostly everyone that wasn't homeless was well to do, and this resulted in beautiful, multi-million dollar homes everywhere and a veritable Disney World for young adults with good careers (the ratio of young, well-to-do adults was unsurpassed anywhere else in the country). This resulted in awesome experiences like Bay-to-Breakers or Santa-con, and "bar nights" where mostly everyone was white or Asian and the ghetto folks were relegated to outer areas, such as Oakland. It was a great experience while it lasted, and the homeless situation, was, for the most part, non-threatening and something that could be looked past, even though it was completely dystopian and absurd. But, alas, as the poor governance of San Francisco has gotten more out of hand, the homeless situation has certainly gotten worse, and once you're old enough to have a family, you have to find somewhere else to live anyway because it's too expensive.

everything about the city planning is total shit, trees planted in haphazard manner. it's remarkable how much it takes away from the natural beauty

This post shines a light into the hollow void of the liberal psyche. Notice how this posters spiritual and visceral love for SF, which seemingly transcends his love for anything else, is only framed by in-group social confirmations. He doesn't mention things like: a thriving scene for his favorite hobbies, entertainment options, or even passe amenities like world-class dining or access to travel. The city was amazing solely because it gave him the confidence -that he so desperately lacks internally - that he was doing the right thing at the right time. The ephemeral, omnipresent social confirmation San Francisco offers is unsurpassed, and can only be described as orgasmic. For many of us, this is the way we would describe our Prestigious Campuses to our prole hometown friends on fall break. We cringe at our shallowness and vanity in retrospect (as well as thank our friends for excusing it), but this is how liberals live their life 24/7. They really are NPCs, Santacon and white people you want to fuck. Cut me a break lol. I guess I just had to be there.

Philadelphia police investigate a body found inside a trash bag in the back of a U-Haul truck.

Philadelphia police officers responding to a burglary call in Somerton Wednesday morning followed a U-Haul that drove away from the scene and, after pulling the driver over, found a dismembered body inside a trash bag in the back of the truck, authorities said.

Sgt. Eric Gripp, a police spokesperson, said 7th District officers responded to the report of a burglary with a U-Haul truck in front of a property on the 1000 block of Sanibel Street around 9 a.m. When the officers arrived, they saw the truck begin to drive away and followed it to the intersection of Kelvin and Foster streets.

That's why there are very few children and most older adults have moved out of the city.

This writer’s defense is that the city is not literally 100% covered in feces:

Here’s another problem with the map: a single pin represents one poop report. Look at the size of the pin and what it’s meant to represent in relation to the size of the map. Is it proportional? It is not! Edward Tufte, author of “The Visual Display of Quantitative Information” calls this the Lie Factor.

Upon defining the Lie Factor, the following principle is stated in his book:

The representation of numbers, as physically measured on the surface of the graphic itself, should be directly proportional to the quantities represented.

In other words, the pin is outsized. It’s way bigger than the turd it’s meant to represent, relative to the map. No wonder the map leads us to think that San Francisco is blanketed in poop.

Valid points, but for christ's fucking sake that's over 30,000 human poop reports each year. For a surprisingly small city. Human poop. Not dog poop.

It's an amazing city as long as you have money and lol at all the sour grapes are country faggots ITT talking about homeless and needles.

The cityscape is beautiful; tons of arts & culture; thriving economy; great shopping with lots of independent shops; incredible dining scene in just about any niche you can think of; great weather (mostly -- see below); good intellectual culture powered by all the universities and tech companies; very safe as long as you avoid shitty areas like Tenderloin; you are within driving distance to some of the most phenomenal natural attractions in the US (Tahoe, Big Sur); the wine scene in Napa; Vegas is a 90 minute flight so you can do weekends there and Hawaii is 4 hours away.

Here are the actual disadvantages:

- Women are objectively worse than most major American cities; you'll see a lot of Ching Chong Stanford 5s.

- If you're single, you run the risk of get styled on by tech faggots making $10m at 25, but they're much less aggressive than the comparative bankers / hedge fund in MFH.

- It's expensive and there's no getting around that. If you're in tech, banking, law, medicine, some other field where you're making a lot of money you won't care but there are plenty of average people who are suffering under the bizarre economy that's been cultivated here. You probably need to make at least 200k single / 400k as a family to be able to really enjoy the city.

- 9 months out of the year, you're happy about the weather but the summers are sad compared to 4 season places like NY, Chicago, Boston. That said, Hawaii is a 4 hour flight away and LA is about 75 minutes so you can get your beach and sun in other ways.

counterpoint: there are like two trendy (catch all term for the urbane living you're describing) districts and something about the actual city and the people in it feels like it's an NYC Jr. at best. that said, if you're cultivating like a legitimately seriously interesting friend group / network by living there that is a different story and something i'm not going to get when i come in on the weekends to walk around a bit

100% true, and living in the "trendy" neighborhoods is irrelevant because the entire city is only 7x7 miles. You can get from the Embarcadero to Ocean Beach with pretty minimal effort.

The women got better looking around 2012 when the tech boom brought a lot of 7s out to do totally unnecessary shit for tech companies while feeling empowered that they worked in an Important Tech Field but cotdamn are those women nearly universally awful.

The Tenderloin is safe enough. Hunter's Point/Bayview is the only real ghetto in the city and the Mission has much more violent crime despite being trendy white kid central thanks to beefy thug cholos.

I hear property crime has gone way up in the pandemic. Saw a video of some dude literally get out of his car, smash the window of another car stopped in traffic, and steal their camera equipment in broad daylight the other day.

Was there on a business trip a few years ago. I think it's the worst place I have ever been to. Human shit everywhere, to the point that they have to have special sanitation vehicles basically bathing the streets in streaming water every morning to keep human waste from piling up into mountains. Crazy homeless people getting in your face, screaming obscenities. I remember one who was completely naked just bothering everyone who passed by, and no one gave a fuck or tried to stop him. Random junkies sticking needles in their veins in broad daylight. Tent cities everywhere. I don't know how or why anyone would want to actually live there, but lots of people do.

no clue since i've never been there, but is it that much of a tourist destination that all of these people have opinions on it? i just never would think "i have some vacation time, going to san francisco!".

Beyond overrated. It's "charm" is gone, the weather is schizo and so are the people.

Man, just go to LA. Santa Monica, Downtown, The Hills.

SF is just a city you go to work or for business. If you must, you live there.

Otherwise....

Unpopular opinion: LA is a dump and a sprawling wasteland. SF is beautiful if you focus on distant objects, the Pacific and the hills. If you drive in from most angles you are welcomed with a feeling of an outpost of civilization situated in a rare natural setting. And wherever you live you can find some beautiful line of sight.

But downtown SF is kinda a ragged, dirty dump. And the buildings and architecture are ugly. And it's a quiet, boring city in many respects. Cleveland may have a better nightlife.

Lol Cleaveland, holy shit.

Yeah the West in general is a beautiful area. You can say the same about the LA "focus on distant objects, the Pacific and the hills."

I associate "sprawling wasteland" to a metro suburb. Like outskirts of Phoenix, for example? It has people but all the exits on the highway are the exact fucking same. Same stores. Same chains. Same housing complexes.

Viewed from a highrise the landscape of San Francisco proper looks like a Favela.

Nice unit. But 4M? Seems out of the question high for what you're getting. I'd consider it 1/3rd its price.

SF has a unique uglyness to it. The Embarcadero reminds me of a post-utopian clockwork orange.

I hope the best for the city and its future.

I agree with this. Still find sf charming and surrounded by natural beauty despite the obvious problems with homelessness and insane cost of living. Can’t stand la and want to kms every time I’m there

Awesome place for gays, druggies and tech billionaires. I assume everyone else who lives there either secretly belongs to or aspires to one of those categories.
