It was their thing. Their American Dream, their chance at the Rockefeller life and they ran it well. When the Jews came in later to take over from the Italians, Jews were "corporate" about running Vegas. And it was never the same. It went from glamorous to shlock in the desert. Celebrities and Glitz to just another thing to trick the goyim.

They really courted the celebrities, the glamour, the lifestyle that defined those times. By the 1980s the Jews had moved in and began the corporatization of the town into a giant Times Square. It's just not the same. The Italian era had more glamour and romance to it. However they ran it, and I'm not commenting on that part, it just worked better. But that Las Vegas is long gone.
What's also interesting is that even to this day there are only 3 million people in the entire state of Nevada, but Las Vegas was at one point the biggest city founded in 20th Century America and that is entirely because of enterprising Italian mafia gangsters. |

It's a cool era to reflect on but I suspect if you went back there as a time traveler you'd think the rooms, food, and service were shitty, everything smelled like smoke, there wasn't much to do besides smoke, drink and gamble, and 9/10 the entertainment sort of sucked other than when you'd get a major headliner like Sinatra in town, which TBF would have been incredible.
You weren't chilling poolside at the Wynn in a cabana sipping vintage champagne while getting a massage from a hot Slovak in 1964. It was amateur. |
