It’s so interesting: I do love Sci-fi but it all tends to be very dark and dreary and rationalist. Most Sci-fi depicts some sort of dystopia in my experience; much of it serves as a warning to us. With that in mind, I of course recommend the Dune series. I also recommend the Three Body Problem series - genuinely very existentially terrifying series. Rendezvous with Rama is a great Clarke novel.
Frankly I have not read much fantasy other than LOTR (spiritually excellent) and GOT (spiritually dead).
In the future I plan to read:
Foundation
Wheel of Time
Dark Tower

Tyty!
If I lose momentum with Dune, I’m planning on trying The Three Body Problem next, based on your recommendation. (I’ve also made it no secret over my years here that I ❤️ East Asian men - highly underrated as creatives IMO)
Also, apropos of nothing, I enjoyed the Game of Thrones TV series all the way through (I treated the entire thing as mindless entertainment, given as you said that it’s spiritually dead, kind of a fantasy pulp series; but then again my brother BEAVER tp has spoken highly of the book series, IIRC, so I’ll probably try them in audiobook form someday)
