Characters are the worst part of the books, so the fact that the characters also suck in the show is not the worst thing in the world Season 2, like Dune 2, should be a huge improvement |

Date: March 24th, 2024 9:28 PM Author: flushed national You find this out by the end of season 1, but the black guy is responsible for coming up with humanity’s plan for destroying the aliens. I expect season 2 to be entirely about this. The cancer guy’s brain being shot into space is going to be the only reason another character in the show is able to survive the events of a catastrophe I imagine will be adapted in season 3 or season 4.
I don’t really remember, I want to say they look like octopuses. There an interesting stretch of time in book 3 where humanity and the aliens have learned to coexist on earth that I think will be pretty funny if they film it. It doesn’t last long though. |

Date: March 24th, 2024 9:51 PM Author: flushed national That’s just Netflix gobbledygook. The books read like a historical record. Each book has a new main character that isn’t in the previous books. Only the detective guy and Ye Wenji is in multiple books. The Netflix version just makes it so that all the characters from all 3 books are there from the beginning. As I said in the other comment, a big theme in the books is how women are unfit to make political and wartime decisions. Hell, the entire plot is kicked off because a woman makes a highly emotional and irrational decision to doom humanity. Very excited to see them adapt book 3 with that in mind. |

The guy the black guy is standing in for in the book is my favorite character in the series. His arc is deadbeat turned stoic defender of humanity. The fact that he’s black is eyerolling, but if they keep following that arc he could become the best character on the show. The Asian chick on the other hand is also hateable in the book and basically is responsible for dooming humanity. The author of the books is misogynist - the moral of the story of book 3 is that institutions degrade when women are in charge of them and women have no place in war and the main thrust of the plot is caused because the original people that kept the aliens from invading were being replaced by empathetic/complacent women and that leads to humanity’s destruction. If they adapt the books correctly, she will be primarily responsible for that. I really have no idea what Auggie is doing in this story and she sucks. I’m hoping that she’s dead already following a timeskip in season 2. |
