So if you have $100k in illicit funds you want to move to the USA, you go to Brunei and use a Brunei bank to deposit money into the hedge fund. Then a little while later then hedge fund loses 10% of your investment on bad trades and you withdraw at a loss in NYC.
But this only works if the people running the fund have a reason to do business with you, and they only have a reason to do business with people who are making steady deposits, like arms traders and casino operators. Diddy isn't getting hired as a producer and Sean Jean went out of style, so these funds have no reason to do business with him. |
