Back home now. I have a pump that’s attached to me that I have to carry around with me for the next 48 hours (it’ll slowly release of one of my two chemo meds). Feeling ok overall, just a little off, but they tell me it takes a few days to feel the peak of the side effects. I do feel very sore and achey from the medi-port implant procedure they did yesterday though

Every time I go to a cancer appointment I’ve been the youngest patient when I look around the waiting rooms. dont think I’ve seen anyone who looks younger than late 40s and most people are older than that. Strange feeling and a bit isolating but also gives me hope that I’ll do well during treatment

Side effects that are developing so far:

-throat felt like it was on fire when i tried to drink cold water. I have to only drink lukewarm drinks and avoid cold foods

-jaw muscle pain when chewing (especially first bite or two). I chew much more slowly and carefully to avoid this problem. At least I can’t eat too fast now

-back is stif and achey

-some sensations of stiffness/discomfort in abdominal area

-shivered when I stepped outside in cold weather so looks like I’m more cold sensitive

-I’m constipated. Going to take Miralax today.

-felt a wave of nausea as I was typing. They mix an anti nausea med (zofran)

In the chemo cocktail but they also prescribed me three different anti nausea meds to take orally as needed

Was hard to sleep the first night. They give you a big dose of oral steroids before the chemo and that kept me pretty wired.

Side effects usually peak 3-5 days after and it’ll be cumulative so I will feel more side effects after a few cycles

Was part of the plan from the beginning to start radiation as soon as possible. They think it’ll be more effective to start it early - not sure why. It’s just a one week thing then I’ll resume chemotherapy for 4-6 months.
