There was a lot of "who the fuck is he arguing with, this is lame" - focusing on his personal life meant missing out on capturing the bizarre world of revolutionary France and his rise in the popular imagination - even when they showed iconic stuff like crowning himself emperor, they sort of blew past it without showing how big a "fuck you" it was to everyone previously important - missed a golden opportunity to show the charge of the Scots greys at Waterloo Some of the battle scenes were truly 180 though and worth watching for those alone
