1) He's dead. 2) He lost his keys for whatever reason. 3) If he were to sell, that would signal to the market that he doesn't believe in his own creation, which could cause the market to collapse. Sort of like when insiders at a company start selling their shares. |

3 isn't really legitimate, because he could easily sell a few BTC here and there every so often and make some nice change from doing it and no one would freak out.
The mystery is why massive amounts have sat totally untouched in wallets for 15+ years now with absolutely no movement whatsoever. |

Having said that, it's also possible that he is a true believer that believes that crypto will replace fiat (which will become worthless) and that there is no reason to ever convert crypto to fiat. It's also possible that he values his anonymity more than being rich and knows that if he started selling his stash, his anonymity would probably be blown. |
