I'm obviously not including cassette because I'm sure dozens if not hundreds of poasters have recorded some audio to cassette. I'm talking like 15 IPS reel to reel analog electromagnetic tape.

I am guessing out of the box that OldHLSDude has probably done it.

OldHLSDude is a yuge ham radio buff. I'm sure he's restored all kinds of vintage electronics. Would love to know his thoughts on reel to reel tape.

I did a lot of reel to reel in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. Somewhere there is a tape of a farting contest we did during my Beavis and Butthead years. We all had stage names. I recorded a lot of music off radio. FM stereo was not around yet and even stereo records were scarce. I only had a single track system. Two speeds selected by manually changing a capstan. All vacuum tubes of course. The equipment s long gone but I still have some reels.

Sad you don't have a tape machine anymore. Would love to hear the reels. Since you have nothing else going on why not digitize it? Can you imagine uploading your fart contest from the 50s for all of us? Think of the MPM glory.

Is this your original trip hop? What did you use to make? Sounds like MPC or Roland SP404. Did you record this and run it through tape for effect?

yes in Ableton - it was a mix of like 20-30 hip hop tracks from the 90s keyed and cut up spliced/edited with various VSTs. was deep into microsound at the time .

It's good. It's got potential. Reminds me of Verbal by Amon Tobin.

What style of tape reel should I get? Should I just get cheap cassette for the vibes or go all in with two track reel to reel?

I don't have any money. And Zurich sends me his Givenchy and YSL clothing hauls every day just to stunt on me. He really likes to dunk on the working poor with his lawyer bucks.

Tape was pretty hissy pre Dolby and speed control was always an issue. Expensive systems could sound really good, though. It was the only way to record sound. The only audio media were vinyl and tape. I’ve seen magnetic wire recorders and wax cylinders, but that stuff was obsolete before my time, though wire recorder dictaphones were still in use.

It's fascinating how at the time tape was around everyone wanted high fidelity with no warp, wobble, or distortion. In the era of digital recording however people seek out the most messed up, least functioning tape systems to impart the analog character so their digital stuff doesn't sound like ass.

You should seriously try to record that digitally and poast it on YouTube.

If I saw a video titled “MIT FART CONTEST 1970” I would absolutely click on it.

EDIT - meant to poast to your previous poast but you get the idea.
