Who the hell would pay that much to go to GW??

Top 5

1. GW

2. Kenyon

3. Bucknell

4. Vassar

5. Sarah Lawrence

Proof that higher the price doesn't mean better the education.

Seriously, what a bunch of fucking TTTs. Only fucking shitheads who couldn't get into a REAL elite private school would go to these pieces of shit.

All you fuckers like to rag on the University of Southern California because of our price tag. But at least we ARE prestigious, and our tuition is worth it because you're attending an elite university.

GW on the other hand in a fucking piece of shit. Who the fuck spends $39,000 to attend a school that isn't even in the Top 50?

At least USC is a legitimate Top 30 elite institution.

So there is some gigantic difference between top 30 and top 50?? I agree USC > GW, but at what point do you say $39K is "worth it"? Seems more like an individual decision to me (for some the price tag is nothing).

I'm no fan of GW or many of the other colleges on that list, but they charge that much simply because they can (ie people are willing to pay, so there is a market).

Yeah, there's a pretty big difference between Top 30 and Top 50.

For one, most top employers and companies, or most prestigious jobs like management consulting and i-banking usually cut off at Top 30 institutions (with few exceptions, like Boston College or NYU). If you don't go to a Top 30 school, or NYU/Boston College, you're fucked if you want to get a prestigious management consulting or i-banking job.

Second, most people I talk to agree that the prestigious schools are generally Top 30. Most also agree that schools below Top 30ish are generally TTTs (again, with exceptions, like NYU).

So yeah, there's definitely a gap between Top 30 and Top 50.

It's similar with law school too. There's generally a wide prestige gap between schools in the T14 and T25 (again, with some exceptions, e.g. Vanderbilt and UCLA which sometimes are considered on par with T14 law schools).

Wait, you actually talk to people about about college rankings in real life? Jesus, what a loser-fucker.

Chinese and Koreans obsess about school rankings all the time.

It's part of our culture. I'm not afraid to admit it. It's all about competition and pushing to make each other better.

Plus, if you want to become a part of the power elite of society, it's mandatory to go to a prestigious school (especially since you're Asian). And even if that's not your goal, if you're Asian, and you don't go to AT LEAST a Top 30 school of NYU, you're fucked.

I say this because many of my Asian friends from DECENT state schools (mid tier UCs) are struggling to find work despite graduating. Many of my friends from UC Irvine, UCSB, etc., have struggled to find jobs and had to resort to go to UCLA or USC or Berkeley for grad school in order to land good jobs.

Asians from Cal States and lower to mid tier UCs have to compete with all the Asians from Berkeley/UCLA/USC/UCSD to land all the good jobs--and there are only so many good jobs going around in ultra competitive California.

Read the paper, it's a weak economy. Kids at Ivy's are going to have it rough finding jobs, too.

Re: that power elite thing - it's not. It might get you into the middle class, maybe even upper middle class, but it's not getting you upper crust if you're not already there.

The only way to go from lower or middle class to upper class is by entrepreneurial spirit. Entrepreneurship isn't the kind of thing they teach you in schools.

Also, to stereotype horribly, asians tend to lack social and networking skills, so they bomb interviews more than other groups of people.

Once you get outside the top 10 or 15 schools, no one cares where you went unless it's devry or some festering toilet.

State school in your home state > "somewhat prestigious" LAC when it comes to hiring.

If I wanted to study politics or get into the world of DC, GW >>> USC.

And don't fucking try to play this game that there are only I-Banking/Consulting jobs and that's it. A slim number of kids at BC/USC are taking those positions. Yeah, kids in the business school, perhaps, but people get jobs in other fields. Duh.

A non-elitist would argue that these are fine schools. Just because it's not an ivy or T10 doesn't mean it's laughable.

BUt they certainly don't merit their price tag, which of course is nothing more than a marketing scheme.

Get out of town!

You're right about that, but I think there's a legitimate question of whether the cost is worth it--which really can apply to any private university, including the top schools. The only reason I ever went to a private school--albeit one that is considered a TTT on this board--is because I got a hefty financial aid package. Otherwise I would have had just stayed in-state.

Wow. Kenyon is a top five expensive college in the country?

When I applied to college in 1997-8, Kenyon was a noticeable few grand cheaper than the eastern liberal arts colleges.
