i saw 1 (twice!) and 2 and can nonetheless barely remember any of it.

i know there’s a blaq/latina alien noble savage with a soulful planet, and rapacious whitey wants to *knowingly* destroy it all for Gold. and didn’t they call the Gold unobtanium? cute. might be misremembering

but it’s not that it’s unoriginal, it’s boring. it drags

Correct, they called it unobtanium and apparently it was critical for earth to survive. It was so bad that I remembered it. The biggest plot hole was that humans would just nuke them all from space and take the unobtanium because during an existential crisis no one cares about the blue people rights or whatever bullshit springs to mind.

People are stupid and shit like this (and the success of comic book movies) is a demonstration of that. Movies like Bladerunner (both original and 2077) barely made a profit while absolute garbage like this basically printed money because everyone went to see it.

the audience is hundreds of millions of brown people who just like the bright colors and noise from the screen like dogs watching TV

No, dogs center on things they care about like dogs, cats, squirrels, etc. I have no idea what this audience is centering on.

The first one was a pretty solid family/kids movie. It had the standard bloat and cringy dialog from a James Cameron movie but that shit seems to work for him. If you look at it as a serious, adult film, though, it does not hold up at all. It's a beautiful movie with ideas that would hit home for kids in elementary or jr. high.

Film is a visual medium and James Cameron is probably the greatest director of all time in terms of creating action set pieces.

These movies are bloated and the plot is mediocre at best, but when shit goes down they're amazing movies - especially on the big screen in 3d.

There isn't a Marvel movie that has close to the action staging as the 5th worse set piece in Avatar.

They should get really crazy with this franchise and introduce new planets and new aliens in the next film. Or take the Na'vi to Earth and fuck with humans on their turf.
