Wrong! It actually does matter because the bar for admission is a lot higher if you're from a weak undergrad program.

Example. I knew a guy who went to a rival high school, very smart White guy, also charismatic & athletic. He turned down Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, Vanderbilt for undergrad to attend UGA on a prestigious foundation fellowship. His reasoning was that because he wanted to attend law school, it wouldn't matter.

He crushed it at UGA. Perfect 4.0 GPA, 178 LSAT, student government, tons of other leadership stuff. Yet he was rejected at Yale, Harvard, and Stanford law schools. He later told me that going to UGA was his biggest regret in life and joked that if he had Asian parents that would not have happened.

The thing about undergrad prestige is that the ROI is truly long-term and has implications throughout your life in ways that you cannot predict when you're a high school student.
