Because it had that shaky graphics issue because the hardware lacked the ability to properly calculate floating points and had no Z-buffer, so you had wobbly polygons nonstop reminding you that you are poor and playing an inferior console. Mario 64 didn't have this, and felt like a premium gaming experience. All the CGI cut scene jrpgs in the world weren't gonna make up for that.
