Generation after generation of humans rooted in visions of material and qualitative progress. The fucking Jetsons.
This entire worldview collapsed, within our adult lives. Seems like a major historical event.
Imagine the genpop now believing "oh yeah my kids will be much richer and better off than I am, or their grandparents were. Happier, prospering, beyond the frontier of new tech which will make everything wonderful."
This is the fundamental birth-rate issue. If pressed to move further, I think it's because Boomers broke a covenant that was many millennia old.

everyone gripes about boomers, yeah.
but have we really come to terms with a 1000+ year old bedrock assumption about human society ("the future will be better") being discarded? And only in the last 25-30 years (at most)?
Feels as big as Constantine converting or something

Boomers broke the covenant in multivariate ways:
1. Tech advancement stalled hard starting the second boomers graduated from college. Peter Thiel discusses this. They suck at Engineering and thus the idea of a jetsons-like future went by the wayside with Cars getting worse every year and America being too dumb to make electronics/consoles/Games
2. They are the first gen to ngaf about “god” and reproducing for His sake
3. Taking ALL of the damn money in every way possible + all the other shit we complain about

Disagree
It's essentially an article of faith within Christianity that this world is hopelessly corrupted and constantly getting worse. Proof of this is basically everywhere. Try opening a history book sometime.
90's America was a completely insane aberration in the overall arc of human history.

Cons were like “Fuck. McCain’s going to lose. We have to start complaining about spending again.”
