Can Bitcoin Afford to Maintain Its Core Network? - CoinDesk
WebFeb 23, 2023 · It costs up to $200 million a year to keep Bitcoin’s code maintained and functioning.
According to a Forbes article, the Bitcoin network consumes electricity at an annualized rate of 127 terawatt-hours (TWh), which exceeds the entire annual electricity consumption of Norway1. Another source, The Balance, estimates that a single Bitcoin transaction required 1,390.49 kWh, the equivalent of power consumption of an average U.S. household over nearly 48 days2. On an average day, 240,000 Bitcoin transactions are sent over the network3.
It’s worth noting that Bitcoin’s popularity and uniquely inefficient consensus mechanism make it an easy scapegoat for its environmental burden. However, the blockchain technology that underlies it could be the key to a greener future1.
I hope this information helps!

To be fair,
Whoa, look at this -- suddenly out of nowhere, a bunch of Jewish liberals (aka the biggest fans of "electric cars" on the planet and the group who has been aggressively pushing them on us for a decade now) randomly decided to care a lot about wasteful uses of electricity and start taking a hardline stance on how we really need to start monitoring that shit carefully and probably even clamping down on "bad" technologies that use more electricity than they are actually worth in the real world.
Wow, this all seems very genuine and heartfelt and not even slightly hypocritical!
Lol kikes get fukt and go back to Tel Aviv

Who cares? With fusion reactors just around the corner we'll soon have near limitless cheap energy. They'll be able to setup a hundred different crypto mining blockchains without even making a blip on the electrical grid.
