I had an extra vehicle, very nice 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The payments were getting too high for me so a friend of mine suggested to rent it out through Turo. I did the process and became a host. The company seemed OK, and I was under the impression that the portion of my earnings that were going to Turo were for “extra insurance”. Come to find out, it was just going to Turo and doesn’t cover much.
On the last trip, the f**ker STOLE my truck and took it to Mexico from CA, USA. Of course the POS used a fake name, license, and has since deleted all sources of communication. Well this happened on September 30,2025. It is now January 29,2026 and I’m still dealing with the nightmare of Turo.
They recovered my truck, but not the key (which I only found out 2 weeks ago-no one told me). When they got the truck back they took it to some storage place for MONTHS and said it was because of the Mexico/USA. But once it got back to CA in San Diego and was released by CHP, they took 6 days to tow it from San Diego to the Central Valley area (about 7-8 hour drive).
Now they are picking apart the before and after photos and saying they aren’t going to cover certain things.
This is all so emotionally stressful on me on top of having to make the stupid payments while this is all going on.
Comment if you want more. I’m so emotionally exhausted.
EDIT: A lot of you are saying to get a tracker. I DO have a GPS tracker on the truck. That’s how Turo was able to recover the truck. Now that the estimate is in from the body shop, Turo is refusing to pay for the damages. That’s my issue. They are frauds! |

Been driving with them for 8.6 years. I remember ALL OF THAT. Super cringey looking back. I also started in DFW, and at the time they didn’t have the right permits or something, so every ride was a suggested amount. Some college student zeroed me out on a thirty mile trip, so I quit for a year or so.
