What if we give the Christian school one 6’8” guy recruited by missionaries from a village in rural Nigeria, but he’s only been playing basketball for 2 years and has a bad handle, no jump shot, and frequently out of position on D? Does he take over the game with raw athleticism or watch in frustration as his teammates give up open 3s and refs call fouls every time he lays out a girl who tries to run through him?

There are 100% teams at very small high schools that they could beat. Angel Reece is 6'3". That's undersized at the D1 men's level, but big enough for many high school leagues.
One of the main reasons that it would be difficult for a women's team to beat a men's team is because men are taller and jump higher. Any men's D1 team is going to get effectively open shots all night against a WNBA all-star team because the women simply won't be tall enough to meaningfully contest most shots. That advantage disappears (and is even reversed) if a bunch of 6'4" WNBA players are playing a bunch of high school guys under 6'. My guess is that WNBA players could probably beat at least some D3 teams for the same reason. But once you get to the D1 level, even players at lower-tier schools are going to be too big and too fast.

These aren't some randos playing a little D1 ball. These are the best female athletes on the planet. Supposedly, Reggie Miller never beat his sister in a game of one-on-one until they were in college. Maybe he's just saying that to make her look good, but whatever. If you put a bunch of WNBA all-stars who are 6'3" or higher with a 35% three point percentage against some 5'9" 17-year-olds who are still learning to make a jump shot, they will do just fine.

The hypo here isn't some random "professional" players against some elite 14-year-olds. It's the very best WNBA players on the planet against some random high school team. Caitlin Clark is 6' and shoots 40% from the 3 point line. If you match her against some 5'6" guard at a random rural high school, she'll go off for about 80.

What do you mean by "could beat"? They would almost certainly be underdogs against any D1 team, but they could still pull out a win on a good day if their shots were falling and the opposing teams' shots weren't. I have played in coed basketball leagues before, and shooting tends to be the great equalizer. A 5'4" girl ended up being one of the top players in the league because she was the best 3 point shooter even though she couldn't create her own shot and she was a significant liability on defense. If you built an WNBA all-star team consisting of three point shooters and a few rim protectors, I think they could beat a men's team on the right day. But the men's team would have to have a cold shooting night. The women's team simply wouldn't be tall enough to contest most shots outside the paint, so the men's team will be getting basically open three pointers and mid-range jump shots all day. The women's team would also probably get killed in transition because they wouldn't be quick enough to defend against a fast break. If they played a half court game, the women would stand a much better chance.

(guy who has never heard of a pick and roll)
You would need to run an offense that uses a lot of screens to create open shots because otherwise half the women's shots will be blocked, but the best players in the world are capable of doing that.

My guess is that there is an undersized, slow team somewhere in D1 where an WNBA all-star team would have at least 25:1 odds of winning. Air Force jumps to mind because they can't use NIL or the transfer portal nor can they recruit players above a certain height.
And it depends on a number of other variables. Are we assuming that the men's team knows that they are playing the WNBA all-stars and can spend a few days practicing a scheme that exploits their weaknesses? Or are we assuming that they are just thrown onto the court together? If the men's team isn't prepared, an upset becomes far more likely. Caitlin Clark shot around 40% from the 3 point line in college. That's absolutely deadly even in the men's game. If you put a couple ace three point shooters on the women's team and the men aren't used to focusing on stopping the 3 point shot, the women have a chance.

Under that scenario, the women's team wouldn't have much time to design a winning game plan, either, but for the sake of this hypo, we'll assume that they have one. If you gave me 25:1 odds for the women's team, I would seriously think about it. They would be heavy underdogs, but if they stacked their lineup with 3 point shooters and designed their entire scheme around getting them open looks, they could maybe pull off the upset if they had a great shooting day and the men's team shot poorly.

Apples and oranges. Soccer it's almost impossible for women to compete with men because men are so much faster and can kick the ball so much further. In basketball, the lack of speed and size is an enormous handicap, but, as I said, shooting can potentially make up for it. Elite women's players will be able to shoot the 3 at a much higher rate than some random low major D1 player, so there is a chance if they can get their 3's to fall and not give up too many easy buckets on the other side.

JFC has anyone on this thread ever played basketball? That's why you set screens and run plays to create open looks. Like I said, in the coed league that I used to play in, our offense was basically trying to create open looks for our 5'4" female sharpshooter. That's probably harder to do when we are talking about D1 athletes. But saying that they would never get a single open look is silly.

Maybe, but I'm skeptical. Realistically, the only way the women can win this game is to outshoot the men, meaning they need a lineup of excellent 3 point shooters. Against that lineup, the last thing you want to do is give them open looks, which is the risk if you are pressing. I'd just try to play tight man defense the entire time. Make sure they have a hand in their face every time they shoot a 3.
I think a women's team with some good 3-point shooters and a scheme designed to get them open looks would put up some points. The defensive end is where the women would really struggle. If I were coaching the men, I would tell them to sprint down the court after every defensive rebound. The women simply won't be fast enough to keep up and you'll get tons of points off fast breaks. In a half court offensive set, the women would need a big Britney Griner type to have any kind of hope inside the paint. Even then, if the men have a good big man, it's game over. A decent D1 big man would score at will even against Britney Griner. The only hope that the women would have is if their opponents' big men were all undersized and not very athletic. If you force the men to take nothing but mid-range jump shots, maybe you could beat them on a bad shooting day. It will be tough, because most likely the women won't be able to meaningfully contest those shots, so some of them are going to fall. But if the women can shoot well from 3 and force the men to settle for mid-range jumpers, there is a chance.
So no, I don't think the WNBA all-stars could beat any D1 team in the country with any kind of consistency. And most D1 teams they wouldn't beat once in 20 tries. But I think you're going too far if you say that a WNBA all-star team could never beat any men's team under any circumstances. I think they could beat some high school and D3 teams and might even be able to take down a really bad D1 team on a good day.

How about this hypo : a NYC biglaw office fields a random team of men. Your median player is short, bald and in poor cardiovascular health. You have a guy who runs marathons but he is too autistic to play pickup basketball with bros and struggles to hit layups. At least one of your starting 5 is an obese service partner with balky knees. You have an Asian guy who played JV at his prep school and he thinks he’s the shit and will put up erratic 3s with a taller woman right in his face and none of his teammates ready to rebound, or try to dribble through 3 defenders and get stripped. Does masculine superiority suffice to overcome these handicaps?

Yeah, this is just idiotic. Like I said, I used to play in a coed league. Arguably the best player in the league was a 5'4" girl simply because she was the best shooter in the league. Caitlin Clark would pretty much score at will against a 5'6" fat lawyer.
