The stupid American conflation of the working class with the middle class is dead.
The middle class is the 80th-99th percentiles, in the middle between the capitalist class and the workers. It's not the group centered on the mode of the income distribution. The middle class manages the workers and gains professional training.
It's what we call the upper middle class and it's doing fine.

The idea that there is a middle class where people are treated equally is dead.
You go on a flight and there are 10 different lines now. The lowest price ticket doesn't even get a bottle of water.
Disney World now lets you cut lines if you pay more. If you pay even more you can cut all the lines.
Concert tickets and sporting events are often $500 a ticket for basic seats. Stadiums keep getting rebuilt with taxpayer money to introduce more suites, more clubs, etc.
Even when you go to the movie theater, there's a separate line for "VIPS" to buy popcorn.
The highways are being restructured to add for pay "express lanes" so wealthier people don't have to sit in traffic.
UMC people don't even go to restaurants anymore - they get Chilis and McDonald's delivered to them.
The world where there was a "middle class" where the town doctor and his janitor left the office and, while the doctor went home to a much nicer house, when they left their houses then experienced more or less the same America - that middle class lifestyle is dead.
