admittedly it gets good reviews at bad tomatoes, but that is from critics trying to appear to "get it". it fucking sucked.
here is an apt review:

ReelTalk Movie Reviews
Plot, dialogue, intelligence, subtlety, suspense, wit, chemistry and logic get tossed out the window in George Miller's fourth milking of this franchise.

i don't think you can say that about the first two movies and thunderdome is still far better than fury road

I feel bad for George Miller but obviously a Mad Max movie without Max won’t sell. This gets lumped in by Twitter cons with shit like Captain Marvel but it isn’t that at all, it’s Miller telling a story he has wanted to tell since Fury Road came out. A really dumb fucking idea, but it’s what he wanted, not studio shit.
When Miller wrote Fury Road he had an insane amount of supporting material and world building shit for all of the non-Max characters and he wanted to make a separate movie out of it.
This will probably be a cult classic type movie in a decade, but cult classics don’t get you budgets for new movies.

I think the bigger issue is that Americans are done with the movies.
People used to go to the movies with their freinds, on dates, with their spouses. And now they just don't.
Hollywood got hooked on the super hero drug, it was amazingly successful, and then they blew their load on the last Avengers movie which made billions of dollars.
But now you can't just go back and go "Here's another origin story of 1 super hero" after you had 50 super heroes fighting over the fate of the universe.
And now they can't go back to normal movies because that audience just learned to do other shit than go to the movies.
