Japan's long term strategy to deal with bears is to plant more nut-bearing trees

Give 'em all nuts to eat so they won't eat people so much.

I'd want to understand the rhythm of these attacks. Do they happen at a particular time of day? Do the victims have anything in common?

yeah bears were native to the levant. lions, horses, the "hyrax" whatever that is, all could be found in that territory down to egypt

the climate of the region has changed a lot over the centuries. anatolia was considered by the greeks to be prime territory for their colonies and much of it is now dry and desolate today
