In the Song Remains the Same there's a part where Robert Plant where's a denim jacket that's like 5 sizes too small. Rumor is that it was left behind by some underage girl he banged.

one of few rock bands to live up to the descriptor "the devil's music."

most hard rock and heavy metal bands just sound silly, but there is something genuinely sinister/sexual about led zeppelin music, especially listening to it when you are very young.

it's teenage music though.

I've always found the stones to be more " sinister". "gimme shelter" " rocks off" even " street fighting man" sound like the Cold War was seconds away from getting hot. The more sinister Zeppelin songs ( " battle of evermore" or " no Quarter" ) are more fantastical. Its the difference between teh cuban missile crisis and the Battle of Pelennor fields( which is what the " battle of evermore" was explicitly about).

Having said that, Zeppelin was roughly 100 thousand times sexier than the Stones ever were. The Stones, when they sang about sex sounded always tongue in cheek. Zeppelin, on the other hand, sounded like someone had plugged testosterone straight into a massive amplifier. When Plant wailed about giving some girl " every inch of my love" you knew exactly how that lust felt. Pages guitar usually felt like it was your penis talking straight to you. You knew what your cock wanted, and listenin to those riffs you felt like you had the greatest cock in the world, telling you just how awesome it would be when it got to fuck every 6+ girl in your high school.

Now by popular demand! A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists:

"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."

"Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch.

"Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).

"Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown."

"Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy."

"Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song (see The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes).

"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down."

"How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter."

"In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut).

"The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court.

"Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker.

"Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues.

"Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar.

"Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit.

"White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair."

"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love."

I'm not listing covers that the band credited to the actual authors ("You Shook Me") or the less blatant ripoffs (the "Superstition" riff in "Trampled Underfoot"). If you have anything to add to this list, please tell me. (DBW)

who cares people say this kind of shit about every famous band.

if you know anything about music then you know that although there are a ton of possible chord progressions, there are fewer that sound good, and there is also a shitload of songs.

here's an example of a chord progression that's been used in literally thousands of songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLM

Sections of guitar riffs can sound similar to each other too (lots of rock songs imitated the riff from "satisfaction").

Led Zeppelin did a lot of unique interesting stuff and didn't use basic chord progressions/riffs, but you're still bound to find similarities between led zeppelin stuff and other pieces. You can do the same for the beatles or any other innovators.

The reason I lost respect for them is all their lyrics are stolen. And the chords are borrowed as well, like you say. So it makes their music fake IMHO.

lol, they didn't make songs that sounded similar. They full on plagiarized shit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyvLsutfI5M

some of these are kind of a stretch, but some are complete undeniable plagiarism, like Zeppelin just straight up stole songs and passed them off as their own. Pay attention to, e.g., @2:40 Dazed and Confused. That is undeniable. There are dozens of examples of this kind of thing, ranging from a stolen riff here or there, to an entire section or lyrical phrase or melody, to stealing entire songs. There is no reasonable explanation for this besides outright plagiarism. BTW Zeppelin agreed with that analysis, as they have settled with a ton of these artists, hth.

cr, one of the few classic rock bands i can listen to while surfing.

beatles too lovey dovey but they have some nice sad songs like eleanor rigby.

the who and rolling stones were mainly about style i think cause their music sounds like shit to me.

the doors same but they have some okay songs like LA Woman.

jimmi hendrix and fleetwood mac may be good but they just don't do it for me.

creedence too yuppie or hippie. can't decide.

Floyd is fucking depressing. No fun to listen to.

Beatles are cute. But they aren't rock gods like Zeppelin. They were lucky to get in first to the game, and they are talented, it's just I don't really view them as OMG amazing.

It's weird - some mags rate Gilmore higher than Page and some put Gilmore out of the top 10. Guitarists are crazy.

Depends on the mag. The notes Gilmore doesn't play are almost as important as those he does. I still think the solo from time is the greatest studio guitar solo evar. I think page is a little overrated though I don't think I need to try to discredit him to make this point.

I'm right there with you brother. DadChick loves Gilmore and raised me to love him.

This is a valid point, but I would say that what they're lacking is not so much artistry or versatility as "melody." Their music is plodding and monotonous (except of course a few songs).

Look at that fucking stage.

You know what sucks about rock now? The band is like 20-30 ft away from the audience.
