its worse than him being terrible. its him being just good enough to consistently win 8 or 9 games that do not matter, add to that one big win that also does not matter, and you have your "pretty good season" thats meaningless

Back in the 90s/00s, being a cfb hc who achieved "institution" status (not even "legend," like bowden or paterno, just institution, like phillip fulmer) was one of the greatest gigs in the country. Job security that trailed only the federal judiciary, for 30x the pay.
It's still a far better gig than the nfl, though, which is why i always think it's silly when cfb hcs try to make the jump.
