There is literally nothing interesting happening in the world at large except AI

And to a lesser extent the political civil war happening in the West
Tbh the latter would be more interesting if it hadn't already been happening for so long as a slow roll. It's easy to become semi numb to it
But there's Literally Nothing Else Happening. Maybe that gook was kind of right about the "End Of History"

idk AI is the first Thing That Has Happened since the internet in our lifetimes imo, and it has the potential to be much bigger than pretty much anything since the transistor. it's the first time in my adult life that I really see the march of progress
I think it feels more real to chinamen with their $20k humanoid robots and shit though. To Americans AI is just another app on your phone that you ask how to make ice cream

Getting really tired of the asinine fixation with “happening”
Existence is insane.everything “happens” inexorably and incrementally. Choosing to ignore reality and the arc of history because it doesn’t meet some arbitrary threshold or isn’t like the story beat of a 90 minute blockbuster is really really incredibly banal to hear constantly especially from online posters who love to rail against “marvel movies” or whatever low cultural fare piñata is out there
Humans evolved over 70 million years or whatevr gradually “nothing happened” would be an insane statement imo to describe that
This “nothing happens” thing is so reductive and stupid. And it’s a cop out for people to be subliterate / uneducated, get carte Blanche to never make any judgements on what’s going on around them in real time till they get some easily packaged and digestible event. Identifying the small incremental cumulative ecological trends way more fascinating imo

I don't think this is true
For large stretches of history in many times and places almost nothing happened. Then in the modern era, an enormous amount began happening within even short periods of time. Each decade in the 19th century was like 1000 years of pre-modern Happenings
This continued all the way up to the end of the cold war, at which point History began to slow down until it started to grind to a complete halt around the Obama era
Now there is almost nothing happening at all except the soft civil war in the West and now AI
