Apple watch is TTT for sleep monitoring because people charge overnight. Heart monitoring is very good on it though.

I do.

The sleep tracking is 180.

HRV is 180 -- although I still use a different device to measure HRV in the mornings.

Other than that I just use it to generally track my heart rate and resting heart rate.

Worth it if you're proactive about your health / fitness.

im a newb and have never tracked any health stuff. is oura a waste? one of the big things ive heard that oura does it make you more conscious of your drinking. can you expound?

also, do you feel the ring will last for at least a few years?

Buy a cheap fitbit Charge 3 and see how you like it. it does everything the Oura does except HRV. If you like it and think you'd prefer to have a ring instead of a watch, get the Oura .

It's a faggoty gimmick that results in zero usable/actionable data. Yeah, looking at the numbers is cool, but nothing about it helps you get a better night's sleep.

Has not impacted my drinking at all, but i'm not the norm.

I don't sleep that much worse when boozed up -- but that's mostly because I have circadian rythm issues so I rarely get very good sleep anyway.

I actually used to think I got good sleep, but i've learned it's rather medeocre. Sad.

-Confirmed my suspicions that eating within a few hours of sleep leads to shitty sleep for me.

-I use HRV data to custom tailor the intensity and duration of my training each morning (or to choose to take a day off or do active recovery)

-I suppliment HRV data with sleep date to further refine choices about training.

-I monitor my heart rate on my phone while doing cardio and while lifting and adjust my activity to be at certain target heart rates.

-Confirmed my suspicions that caffeine does not impact my sleep much.

-I can monitor how well I'm adjusting to new time zones and take action accordingly (eg. choose whether or how long to take melatonin).

I can go on.

I agree it's not that useful for the vast majority of people. You need to be quite into health / fitness and be quite knowledgeable. That said, being super into and knowledgeable about health/fitness should be the norm.

Also, I shouldn't need to tell you why sleep specialists hate sleep trackers for selfish reasons.

Also worth mentioning for all ITT, that the sleep tracking on it is not nearly at the level of a sleep lab and so the sleep data should not be treated as if it's perfect.

can't speak for the oura ring specifically, but a device that measures and logs heart rate (and HRV) is very useful for tracking cals and general fitness stats

i use my garmin watch to track a bunch of fitness stuff, but the most important numbers are the cals i burn each day, so that i can figure out how many cals i can eat.

i also look at trends in HRV to avoid overtraining, RHR to monitor general aerobic fitness, and the sleep monitoring to try to get more deep sleep.
