A recent decision to have National Spelling Bee contestants spell Indian or Pakistani surnames instead of words from the Oxford dictionary led to complaints from parents and students alike.
But officials for Scripps Howard, the publishing company that sponsors the annual Spelling Bee, defended the format changes and predicted that the competition would be more popular than ever.
"Having contestants spell random words has gotten stale and frankly kind of boring," said spokesman William Sadler. "Imagine having to spell Sakharankaharananth on live television. Or Prajeeshakahanankan. Incredibly, those were surnames of actual Bee contestants in recent years. It wouldn't surprise me if some of these kids couldn't spell their own names," he added.

I took second at state, LOL. Lost to a wicked smart Asian kid.
I'm an utter retard at grammar, math, science, etc. But, I'm a spelling savant. Odd case.
