wood is very overrated by guys who want to feel like they did something but not really do much, if you aren't an actual pitmaster your shitty wood smoked brisket isn't any better than a brisket cooked any other way

charcoal is objectively superior to gas, but the convenience of gas makes it worth it if you actually grill often

but at the end of the day, grills are pretty gay and overrated in general

I largely agree. I get better results preheating a cast iron skillet for 30 min to 550 degF, then putting it on the gas range over high heat, adding a little (maybe 1 tsp) of oil, and searing the fuck out of a 1/2" burger patty made from freshly-ground chuck for 90 seconds per side.
