This is 100% unlike and antithetical to any Christian religious movement of recent decades (evangelicals handing out ESL NIVs to blacks and women, Baptists telling the white trash to just accept Jezus into their hearts to be saved, and Catholics telling the little boys to "drink the Jesus juice".)
The film version of JCS just couldn't be made today. There aren't enough thin people. Herod (Josh Mostel) was meant to be ludicrously fat and he was barely obese. All the men are ludicrously gay and manly, but not a fag in sight (except for Herod and crew, who are meant to be). Not even a single political or culture war cheap shot. |
