Buses are fungible and can move on city streets and the entire line doesn't come to a stop if eg a truck breaks down at a rail crossing. It's simpler and much easier to maintain. That's before factoring in self driving buses we'll eventually see. And these transit programs have decades long build plans that are rapidly becoming obsolete. The one I saw above was by Seattle Central community college on Capitol Hill. A car bumper was just slightly in the way and it had to stop. Everyone got off and got on a bus. It was still there blocking traffic almost an hour later when I got back. |
