Otherwise, I'm a mid-20s prole that crawled out of poverty from the confines of northeast Louisiana. Currently am a geology undergrad student living off the GI bill, with the intent on going to grad school for my master's or PhD, haven't decided. I'd like to think I'm an intelligent guy, but I'm definitely a philistine when it comes to many of the topics poasted here. I try to stay in my lane.

We have a ton of stupid shit that we say in the northern half (laissez le bon temps rouler, geaux (which just means "go") and a ton of other shit for cooking. I can make authentic Cajun food, as my grandmother grew up in Houma and taught me, but otherwise I'm indifferentiable between your average Mississippian or East Texan) but I can't speak a lick of French. I can speak Spanish though.
2. I don't really have one. I was a natural contrarian growing up in the south, I listened to Radiohead, Duster, and other average silly teenage shit growing up. Not the same thing that you asked, but I love some of the classic country guys now, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, etc. It's not my favorite genre though, sorry to disappoint.
3. That is a pretty fucking funny moniker but I think I'm going to keep mine for the time being, up until people recognize me. I don't fully understand how people track of who is who, outside of email fields, so that's a skill I need to learn. I've figured out who spaceporn is at least (at least I think so)

I had grown up believing that I was some part Native American or nigger up until I had my DNA results come back, and when I found out I was basically 100% white, I reconsidered my values. Latinas still tempt me, but I still search for a Christian white woman. It's difficult here, but I try. |

Depends what you want to do with geology. If you want to work for big oil, having a master's or PhD might help with $$$. A protip is to get into a PhD program as those are usually funded by the school and you even get a stipend, maybe about $30k. If you drop out after 1 or 2 years, you can leave with a master's, so much better than joining a terminal master's program which usually requires you to shell out $$$ for tuition.
In the meantime, if you are somewhat interested in grad school, keep your GPA up and make sure you interact with your professors. Letters of rec are probably most important for grad school admissions. |
