I unironically don’t think you can go wrong with any of them - they never get formulaic, always delving into creatures’ lineages and expanding on lore for good reason IMO. (I even remembering cherishing the illustrated Christmas feast books!)
I’ll always have a soft spot for the Redwall -> Mossflower - > Martin the Warrior trajectory to start, the mystical feeling of a shy young mouse trying to fill mysterious shoes of half-forgotten legends haunting his humble and seemingly insignificant routine, and gradually discovering his true inner strength - and then learning more and more about the background of the legendary Mouse himself who was the guardian angel we longed to learn more about as readers.
But on the other hand your instinct to start with Martin the Warrior is intriguing now that I think of it - and then doing Mossflower and Legend of Luke (a life of Martin the Warrior trilogy) before skipping ahead in the timeline to Redwall, as that legacy must be defended by unexpectedly humble creatures. And then experiencing the joy of exploring all the other wonderful places and times of Brian Jacques’s (gorgeous, it goes without saying!) Interior Castle… |
