It was noticeably slower at 250W, but at 280W it runs about as fast as if I leave it uncapped:

This means you don't necessarily need the world's biggest power supply to run two of these. If your server sips juice like mine you can do it with 850W

Yes but the process is so cumbersome that I'll never do it in this server. If you only want to do image generation, Intel b50 and b60 (if you can find them) do that quite well. They SUCK for LLMs but they're great for Stable Diffusion, they are cheap, and they consume no power

Because otherwise the 3090 can spike to 500W, and if you're putting two in a server that's enough to overload most PSUs. Capping them at 280W leaves enough headroom on 1000W PSU, whereas unlimited power draw probably requires a 1500W PSU to ensure stability. I have a 1200W PSU and I try to keep total power draw under 75%

Here's where it's going after Christmas. Look at the spacing on those PCIe slots. This will be a 2x 3090 array with 48gb of pooled VRAM

https://a.co/d/dXioB2h

It will run a Proxmox server with an old Intel 12600 (non-k, yeah I got one of those) and 32gb of DDR4.
