The most troubling set of facts that would make me worry about this is the massive turn around in in-person voter contacts from 2020. People forget that the Dems didn’t actually do any in person canvassing in 2020 and Trump did, and he was the sitting POTUS with a properly staffed/equipped RNC. The best argument for why the polls were off in 2022 in favor of the GOP is that the Dems return to in person GOTV was massively underweighted. And when you consider how effectively Dems harvested in 2020 without in-person contacts and you then account for the fact that the entire elections regime in PA, Wisc, Mich and AZ are now controlled by the Dems and it just seems very likely that while pollsters are determined to not undercount Trump vote their models have no clue how to factor in full no excuse mail in vote harvesting plus in person canvassing plus complete control of enforcement in most of the swing states. That plus the GOP abdicating GOTV this cycle collectively probably causes a 2-3 point swing away from Trump nationally at a bare minimum. Here's the basic facts: -main in requests among democrats have collapsed while republican requests have increased or declined much less -republicans are leading in new registrations across swing states -early voting in Virginia is dominated by Trump counties in what is historically a democrat heavy vote share -there is only so much you can do to not undercount low propensity white voters - NYT is one of the few that's trying to stack the bean jar for them and, lo and behold, they have Trump consistently leading. But Rich Baris admits that even his attempts to overcount low propensity white voters ended up undercounting them in 2020 and 2022. -white voters are far more likely to vote when Trump is on the ballot -no one actually likes Kamala |
