maybe pitchers can to an extent, but when a hitter makes a big play it’s not because they willed it to happen through strength, toughness, mental focus, etc. it’s pure statistical probability and some good fortune.

if, for example, you hit a walk off single/homer, it’s because the ~25% of the time you put the ball in play just happened come at a convenient moment (close game, runners on, anticipating the correct pitch, favorable pitching matchup, etc.). run the same scenario ten times and ~75% of the time you shit the bed.

come at me libs

I watched this clip recently. Gibson actually failed to touch second base during his HR trot (8:40) and should have been called out had the A’s appealed, but they had already started to leave the field so nobody on the A’s noticed.

Also, this clip doesn’t refute my argument

Gibson's never say die, will to win single-handedly was the margin of victory. U lose.

You can make a similar argument in every sport. you don't hit every shot in basketball or score on every shot in hockey or soccer. A great three-point shooter is missing most of his shots. The best players in soccer and hockey are missing most of their shots.

I do not use ChatGPT. I have used "Protege" the LexisNexis AI for legal research. That's the extent of my AI use.

yeah but in basketball you can will a shot in through intense mental focus in a clutch moment. in baseball you have to anticipate the correct pitch, which involves a bit of luck, and even then you can’t force the bat to make contact with the ball at the precise point and angle needed. you can only approximate the best swing based on ball placement and hope that statistically it happens to be one of the times you put the ball in play
