Add the fact that the developed southern half is full of browns and shitlibs while being much uglier and less served by public amenities (namely, good schools, but also intervention programs for the rampant opioid problem) and it becomes really unattractive. The lakes are nice, if chronically overdeveloped, and the mountains can be truly spectacular, but I’d have to say the state loses to both Vermont and Maine in the northern New England regional championship.
