Usually my wife takes the kids to meet up with some of their friends in the late afternoon and then i take them out later when it's dark around our neighborhood.

I'm in the minority in that I actually do think phish is a very good studio band.
Hoist (donkey album) is really good IMO and is one of their most approachable and listenable albums filled with songs that work on their own and serve as vehicles for jams at their lives shows.
I like their first studio album, Junta because it contains some of their best compositions and lots of their classic songs like You Enjoy Myself, Divided Sky, Fluffhead and David Bowie.
Their later albums pre-Farmhouse are great too. It's been a while but i think my ranking is:
- rift
- lawn boy
- picture of nectar
- story of the ghost
- billy breathes (there are some very popular songs on this album that i'm just not a fan of)
If you are willing to dive into their live shows, i'm partial to the early phish era like 91-95 before they shifted into more groove based and spacey experimental jamming. Live Phish Volume 7 (8/14/1993) was a favorite of mine.

It's hard to say. My Chris reeve collection is really coming along.
My large sebenza 21 with salted beech has the most beautiful wood grain but I don't have a Damascus blade for it yet.
My small sebenza 21 in spalted beech has not as nice a wood inlay as the large but I found a stunning ladder Damascus blade for it.
My mnandi in spalted beech has a gorgeous raindrop Damascus blade.
It's hard to pick a favorite between them. The large feels like the most special.
For everyday carry, the Spyderco sage 5 lightweight is the best knife IMO.

What should I do for my wife this month (it is her birthday month)?
We are already going to O'ahu in a couple of weeks.
Second series of questions is, why do I feel so completely lost in my life? What can I do to improve my situation? Just do more training for Teewinot? I cannot believe the malaise I have been feeling. It is absolutely overwhelming.

Does your wife enjoy the outdoors? What if you planned a romantic canoe trip with her where you slept overnight in a tipi on a stream and made a fire? There's no way she wouldn't love that your O'ahu trip notwithstanding.
What kind of training is needed? is it climbing or endurance or getting used to high altitudes and thin air? I'd been feeling pretty blue for a while. I found that eating a banana in the morning makes me feel more positive and energetic.
I'm not sure that i'm really the right guy to be giving you advice. You are my superior, and i'm depressed and overweight.

Not flame, I never saw LTJ live.
A friend recently turned me on to Manu Chao. I've been listening to this song a lot.

Ty. Will give this a listen.
Nah, nothing new - wish I had more time. There’s some new-to-me stuff (like openers at concerts I’ve gone to) but nothing amazing.
Have recently been to 25-year and 30-year anniversary shows of album releases. Makes me feel old af.
