What Im trying to say, I guess, is that my middle-aged experience of human nature is that most people have a moral framework and operate within it for understandable and mature reasons.

That really seems to be the ONLY steelman you can make. That the elites thought it wise not to trigger their own countrymen from hurting potentially innocent muslim people. And the only way to do that was immediately lie, in obvious ways, and thereby confirm at the same time that Muslims did this.
But this whole thing just crumbles under any critical thought. Why did they think French people would suddenly go Hitler? And why is protecing innocent dindu muslim families their number 1 priority? They make more fucking money off the tourists at the cathedral.
