Date: April 3rd, 2026 1:45 AM Author: ivory lay a lot of the humor of og mde was in that it was presented as a subtle prank on the network and any imagined viewers who didn't understand broader 4chan culture. you were supposed to laugh at the simple fact that he said “david duke” apropos of nothing and gave a knowing glance back at the camera as if he was winking at you. that makes it sound like a cheap gimmick but it also caused him to be more subtle and clever with his style, like the “jews rock” bit, which was hilarious in context as a simple concept without trying too hard with a dialogue or plot.
now that he’s a known entity and his entire audience knows that everyone else is in on it he loses the benefit of the prank factor and loses his incentive to be subtle and clever. so new mde collapses into a run-of-the-mill skit show that just happens to be “based.” which is not a particularly funny concept unless you are a very skilled skit writer, which he isn’t. |
