I think there's basically zero chance now of a book by itself getting as anywhere near as hugely popular as harry potter did before the movies.

I think that the next mass-consciousness pop-culture crossover sensation might come from the video game side of the world. Summon cowgod, or whatever, but something like the Horizon franchise could start in vidya, and then port over into movies, comics, YA novels, toys, theme parks, etc.
