Cons, did you ever figure out why Mamdani's grocery stores are a bad idea?

Problem: greedy corporations exist that make profit from selling food, which is a Human Right. Nobody should profit from a Human Right
Solution: sell at a loss using public subsidy, putting grocery stores out of business and bringing more of the economy under the wings of the public sector.

the stores will always be low on food
selling at a loss is obviously a terrible strategy, so when they run low on stuff they will have to wait a week to restock to slow down how much they lose
shrinkage will be an issue; obviously the post and daily news will be chomping at the bit to see how they deal with it
staffing will also be lol. presumptively they will be paying people 30 dollars and hour or whatever and not be able to really fire anyone, although again if they don't have much food to sell it's not like they need to do much "work"
either that or it will be a YUGE success its 50/50

Even a 5% drop in revenue will drive some groceries out of busines given the razor thin profit margins.
It's a sliding scale. The more money they sink into the effort, the more business they'll take from the stores, and the more they'll further the goal of driving the groceries out of business. The less money they sink into it, the quicker the shelves will go bare and the less effective theyll be at the ideological goal. But the losses will be more scandalous and less sustainable. Worth watching how they navigate this.

loooool!
the people who have the funds to shop at Whole Funds won't give a shit about a government grocery store.
The purpose of a public option is to give people a lower cost option instead being held by the balls by GC.

Because a Gov't owned grocery store doesn't need to produce a profit.
Thus, food will be cheaper.
Did I make that clear enough you dumb faggot?

Oh wow so 10 companies own multiple brands? Wow its a real monopoly *blank stare*
I dont get it. What is a "proper" amount of companies to own those brands? How many brands should a company be banned from owning more than?
And what does this have to do with retailers (what Mamdani is taking on)

Majority of a major need, like food, should not come from a handful of companies. Its not about the # of brands u legit retard.
Those few companies will often control 80%+ of a market, often just a few (2-4) of them controlling 80%+.
A more competitive market will have say the top few controlling under 50% of the market.

"A major need"
*cites Pepsi*
Also, great statistics, you really proved that you cant eat unless you get 80% from 3 companies or whatever

Huh?
Russia had no food, they switched to capalism and had food, they then drifted back to a totalitarian regime and have no food again.
Makes you think! Government must be the answer. Just look at how great the North Koreans are doing.

Also really lame that NYC is not actually going to run the stores, they're hiring a private-sector contractor. Why? I thought the government was better at everything?
