because it's easy and better than similar options.

if you've got a standard plywood subfloor what are you options? real hardwood is significantly more expense. other than that you've got carpet (outdated) or something even shittier like roll on vinyl.

but is liquid penetration, longevity, rigidness, etc something people consider when buying a floor?

the Q is what way are bamboo floors better than lvp. they seem like the same fucking thing but worse and their only selling point is that they're more ecological.

one is bamboo pulp with fake wood printed on top of it and cut into planks, the other is plastic with fake wood printed on top of it and cut into planks.

bamboo planks have a veneer unless youre talking about solid and stained planks, which is the hippy equivalent to engineered hardwood. and engineered hardwood is better in that category and bamboo is just the "ecological" option.

hard to say, the vinyl stuff has gotten pretty good lately and easy to swap out if you end up wearing it out. I have old hardwoods and the refinishing cost is going to be equivalent to buying 2-3 rounds of replacement LVP for a similar lifespan.

Real hardwood

If it gets scratched and scuffed, that's patina and is even more desirable. (Japanese principle of wabi sabi)

LVP and "engineered" hardwood are self evidently TTT. The fact that they are "scratch resistant" (due to all their Chinese chemicals) is not a selling point.

Lvp and engineered hardwood are actually pretty good. People hate on them because they really want them to be "bad" somehow because they're artificial materials. But they look good and are economical for what you get

anything with a faux finish or veneer is sort of intrinsically lame. and i think people are biased to think it's poor quality because it's cheaper and isn't a lifetime purchase like real hardwood that can be refinished.

but these materials are superior in so many ways. everything is built with plastics and other engineered materials not only because its cheaper and easier, but because they have a lot of advantages.

a wood deck or fence is more prestigious than vinyl or composite, but keeping them looking nice is expensive. its the same thing with interior floors.

theres gotta be some sort of high end top coat that withstands scratches, and it would probably be cheaper to sand and refinish than getting lvp.
