bottom of the barrel, it's not even medicine and no one wants to deal with those people. the biggest employers are prisons. it's great if you can cop a cash only practice for rich white women, otherwise it's awful.

i don't know anything about fed prisons. but most states have publically available state employee lists and the top 5-10% is nothing but shrinks, professional school profs, and sportsball coaches.

Most aren't at the prisons, they're at the state mental health facilities like the one Iryna's killer went to. Those are way nicer than any prison. If they're not at the state hospital they're in court

Don't know I'm far removed from that process. But heard it may be more competitive now because can do cash only or remote out of europe.. Imaging sipping wine in Italy while "consulting" some crazy bitch in ny for her Xanax subscription. But I probably wouldn't do well if I want into that. I'm good at technical stuff but terrible at bullshitting. The lucrative crazies go for someone that sounds like Jeffrey eppstein or Donald trump or bernie madoff.

It's exactly like that. They have to use HIPAA compliant technology but otherwise they rarely have to interact with patients. Once in a while they have to do in person meetings to take drug samples or measure someone's vitals before putting them on a new drugs but that's it

but this is the 180 outcome. there are lawyers who are 100% in laptop, too, but the vast majority aren't. i wouldn't bet on it. you're far more likely to be handing darnell tranquilizers so he doesn't stab someone again.

It's really sad how med students get pressured out of it and wind up doing IM. They end up working 20x harder for the same or less money, and by year 5 they're jealous and bitter as fuck toward every psychiatrist they meet

You missed the part where they have to interact with people.

Lawyers can get away with operating entirely via text, with maybe a few simple phone calls with no video per week.

PS the state laws are all rigged so that certain drugs require you to meet with the prescriber every 90 days to get refills. Psychiatrists can also bill at higher rates depending on whether you want drugs or not. So whatever they bill for visits, they're guaranteed to 4x that every year for every patient who wants drugs. The states make the math super easy like that.

Psychiatric is middle of the pack according to my doctor ex. I think dermatology and plastic surgery are the most competitive?

The main issue keeping psychiatry from being the most difficult is that you're dealing with literal crazies who dump their emotions onto you all day. It's really hard to keep yourself emotionally detached from the crazies you deal with. You're not sticking fingers up people's asses, but instead you're talking to an endless stream of emotionally volatile people who have attempted suicide several times.

Also, there's the stigma with mental health.
