Do you know why mall emo sounds the way it does? Because they took the concepts that the hardcore scene invented and wrote better songs with them. Do you know why Nirvana was so much more famous than the Pixies or the Melvins? Because Kurt took the concept of grunge, the idea and aesthetic of grunge, and he combined it with nursery rhyme melodies and clever as fuck lyrics. That's why Nirvana is huge and The Buzzcocks are not. Hardcore bands are niche because most people don't want to hear that. Katy Perry songs are written by the most talented songwriters in the world. You don't have to like it but the hooks are like 5 billion times better than Black Flag lol. It's not even debatable.
