I own a rental property and paid $4k to have 2 huge old growth trees cut down last week. Then we had unseasonable rain for days and a big windstorm and it blew down many trees in the area.
The property behind mine across the alley had 2 huge red firs blow down and crush the house, leaving the renters (nice white working class xbox type proles) homeless for Christmas blah blah blah. The owner of the place, a boomer slumlord is arguing that me cutting down my trees when I did added "wind stress" to his trees and is saying he's going to come after me for it.
Normally I wouldn't worry because it's an absurd argument but this town runs on who you know and he's an old timer who is probably friends with a corrupt judge idk should I hire a lawyer?

no
if you actually do get legally pressed on this, just lie and say that the trees were damaged in the storm, and that they were leaning toward your structure and you had to cut them down as a time-sensitive emergency before they fell
i've been involved in this exact kind of dispute before and this worked

i dont think so.
i could be wrong but i dont think thats the case.
And if that is the case it is going to be state specific.
I am a guy w two healthy trees in my yard. There's no HOA. I choose to take both of those trees down. no trespass no negligence
Neighbor complains that I have removed a wind wall from his property. So what?
What am i missing here screens mcgee

Jesus.
Obviously it's going to cause wind stress on the neighbor's trees if you just cut them all down suddenly like that. You need to prune them first, wait a while, then cut them down gradually one by one over a period of several months in order for the neighboring trees to build up their natural wind resistance.

Oh another story about this landlord I just remembered, every few days or so he'd drive down the alley "checking out" his property.
So one time I had another guy pruning the apple trees and he had removed the wire cages around the trees and put them next to the alley, and this dumbass boomer ran over one and it wrapped around his wheel and scratched the absolute shit out of the side of his car. He got out and yelled at my pruning guy who is likely mentally disabled in some sort of way and said he was going to have to pay for the damages. Nothing ever happened there.
But I did tell the neighbors he was driving by all the time and creeping on their daughter and friends playing in the pool, and the dudes brother in law is a city cop and somehow got him to stop doing it. A lot of tree related shenanigans with this guy.

wouldnt he have to prove that the direction of the wind went through where your old trees were and pressed on towards his tree line?
also I’m 90% sure you’re flame

I had to remove a tree once (in a city) from my property because it was dying from a fatal fungal infection, was also leaning over and poorly pruned. These trees live like 70-90 years and it had to have been 50-60 years old at the time.
It was a 6 month fight to take it down; with hearings and everything. 3 gay hippies in my city unconditionally protest tree removals of any kind. This tree was non-native to the area.
A year later two trees of the same type blew down in a storm and fucked up
streets/power lines and cars. They would have killed anyone walking under them. If my tree went down that way it would have fucked my structure up or killed people and I would have been sued.
What a joke - to fight and spend a ton of money just for the privilege of protecting your property and not getting sued.
