The Ford CEO who is Chris Farley's cousin for some reason INSISTED his son work during summers to build CHARACTER: https://fortune.com/2025/10/03/ford-ceo-jim-farley-son-summer-job-skills-gap/
now the son is a mechanic which seems like, idk, clearly Jim Farley is deeply, irreparably prole and it is what it is, but imo even if that's the case I don't see the point in having so much pride in it. Like yeah if you're a mechanic or a musician or a Nerd, get your kid started early turning wrenches/playing music/learning BASIC since starting early pays such dividends. But if you're a glorified 300 lb car salesman, what do you personally know about "building character" that a boy couldn't find out on his own?
OYT and I worked summers as a kid and were surrounded by druggies, getting high af and doing menial labor while paranoid, while our parents imagined we were living some American Graffiti existence. All of the druggies are dead now. All of them played Xbox 360.
