Why wasn't Majora's Mask anywhere near as popular as Ocarina of Time?

Not good to actually play irl in 2000 without internet help. Until you got the song to rewind time, felt like a game made for people who know wtf to do already. I guess it’s kind of like a Roguelike.

I didn't like it as a kid. It was weird, very different in tone from Ocarina of Time, like if Tim Burton made a Zelda game. And the game starts with Link getting his ass handed to him by a minor NPC from OOT and turned into a Deku Scrub for some reason, which I didn't like because I played video games to feel cool and strong, not to be humiliated.

The stupid time gimmick was offputting. Turns out its not that bad when you play it cause you can slowdown time or whatever. But the idea of it was too japanese. People don't want looming deadlines in a video game, we had enough on our plate with the USS Cole bombing and the rise of al qaeda
