Date: August 11th, 2026 12:04 AM Author: Garnet lascivious idiot shrine The most amazing thing about their arc is that they're the first band I'm aware of that actually came back with a masterpiece after having fallen off slightly. For instance their first four albums were a contained meta-arc of greatness. The debut, the improvement, the masterpiece, and the reversal. It's so crazy. They got to the top, played the uno reverse card and it was even better. No one could have predicted this.
And then Amnesiac came out and it was B sides, sort of lesser material. A classic in its own right but not as many heavy hitters. HttT has its moments of greatness, they hadn't lost the touch but it's bloated at times and overwrought. Still great but definitely a dip.
But what makes them so special is they came back with In Rainbows which is an unimpeachable masterpiece. I mean, who makes a comeback at that level 20 years into their career. I've never heard of any other band putting out a masterpiece that late in life. That would be like if Tame Impala's next album was as good as Currents and had like 5 surefire bangers. It's not going to happen. Kevin is cooked and it's OK to admit and he's not coming back. But Radiohead did come back they are probably the first rock band to ressurect since the band that was playing the cave Jesus was buried in. |
