They should've coached him way more for the debates but his speech and campaign performance was pretty strong and he was affable in a friendly relative sort of fashion. The issue is just Kamala, who was not and likely will not be ready for an office that high in her lifetime. Shrill, smarmy DA known for being harsh (we love our renegades and mavericks, don't we folks?) from a state generally found to be "too lib" for this cycle. Scummy rise to power. No real primary. It wasn't going to happen. Shapiro was too Israeli-coded and Dem voters were up in arms about Israel (and rightfully so) and apparently also had some skeletons of note in his closet that may have been an issue on the campaign trail. Walz in comparison was squeaky clean and had charisma that Kamala lacked under the forcememes |

shapiro may have been a problem but he has precisely the fake charaisma of hollow obamaesque oratory that makes dems cream their pants. instead they presented the electorate with two ciphers. |

Favorability from some Trump and swing voters was "decent" until 1. Vance debates and 2. his shrill shrew wife got out behind a podium Agree re hollow Obama charisma (pure haute bourgeois educational polish) but also don't think it would've played as well at that time as you might think. He definitely would've done much better in the debates with Vance, and those were crucial to candidate perception this go around. People were looking for some aggressiveness and fire after the Biden years and even Obama being trudged out for his typical shuck and jive didn't do much for the polls. Libs have been overplaying their hand re preaching to an increasingly weary swing voter base w/r/t their bizarre secular Messianic code of Progressive morality, and that sort of polish may have ended up being a sort of malus |

this kind of message was much more plug-and-play in the wake of w. bush and is harder to pass off after four years of democratic failure, but i doubt any perceived "preaching" from shaprio would have turned away voters any more than kamala's own did, and he would have given the shim-jumpers an mirage of competence to latch onto. |
