I saw it again for the first time since its original theatrical release. My opinion of this movie improved substantially. It went from about a D to a B+. For some reason the elements that bothered me before weren't as bad. It's obviously not as good as Pulp Fiction. The writing isn't that tight, the dialog not as memorable, the plot non-existent and the pacing molasses. That being said it's got some funny moments. For a film that's more of a hang than a narrative you could do worse. I also think it's better than Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. It's his best since Inglorious Basterds.
I think OUATIH could really have been improved by Quentin hiring some joke writers. There were too many meh punchlines where the whole setup is there and it's supposed to be hilarious but it's just whatever. He needs a partner to improve the script.

think it is his first top tier movie since Jackie Brown.
you could also put the Qualley car scene on a loop in front of me and i would die happy of dehydration

i love this movie and i really liked it when i saw it in the theater. for some bizarre reason, my older son (interstate 69) really likes it too and wants to watch it when his mom is out with friends or whatever.
i put it up there with reservoir dogs, pulp fiction and jackie brown.

this.
i've talked to a lot of WW2 vets. none of them ever mentioned kikes. let alone hinted that every day when they woke up in europe everyone was running around obsessed with kikeshit.
hundreds of thousands of people died for a cause, and the entire reason has been hijacked by some random uninvolved crooks.

I am not a Tarantino fan, didn't like Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Bastards and didn't really like the kill bills for the most part. I think Once Upon a Time... is basically a masterpiece and absolutely the movie that he was put on earth to make. I don't really understand the comments re: humor and gags and stuff. There are funny parts in there but this is a movie about the killing of Sharon Tate (and to a lesser extent Donald Shea at the ranch).
It's 100% totally earnest yearning for the alternate universe in which Tate and her child survive and the freaks who killed her get their comeuppance, and creates that nicer world, for exactly the span of the movie. Near the end of the movie "Out of Time" starts playing from the Stones as you get to the brink of the Tate murders and the fun, retrospective voiceover falls off and you feel a little bit of dread; not because you don't think Booth is going to interfere with the murders and save the day, but because he will, and the better universe of the movie us going to end. I actually cried at the end of this movie quite hard and I'm not usually a crier (really only It's A Wonderful Life does it to me regularly).
There's also a really nice conversation between Dalton and the young girl actress that hits a lot of nice notes re: both role of the actor as artist and where Dalton in both the novel he's reading and his life - and the line ("Where are you in it?") is scripted really plainly so as to be cutting. Beautiful scene.

Ofs. There's no question.
T2 Judgement Day is probably the perfect example of a director just giving the audience 100% of what the average person wants in a two hour flick. The plot is simple. The actors are cool. The visuals, spectacular. The emotions, simplistic and easy to understand. Wham bam thank you mam.
Nowadays we have people bitching on Twitter that James Hetfield won't make a political speech about Palestine during a rock concert. It's all gone to shit. Everything will just keep getting worse.
