I've had hallucinated quotes and (oddly) bad citations, but no straight-up made-up cases in probably 3 months.
But like I asked it yesterday to draw some floorplans for an open warehouse-type space that I'm buying--which should have been a pretty easy project; frankly a human could do it pretty easily, as the space is just an empty rectangle--and about a third of the plans it gave me were geometrically impossible, or had weird shit like a senseless hallway going between two offices (with no doors facing the hallway) and terminating into an exterior wall. |

I haven't seen it fuck anything up yet, as long as you are careful with scoping your prompt you can do pretty much anything. I was reading about some benchmark they did at open ai where they gave it a bunch of novel bugs not in its training data, stuff the seasoned guys on their research team took up to several months to solve, and apparently it got something like 78%. Which isn't truly perfect, but that is like the highest level shit there is.
Sol 5.6 was really good but it was too verbose/maximalist, and often still had all kinds of loose ends that needed to be tied up, and it would generate so much crap you couldnt keep track of that would end up haunting you later. But astra is really minimalist, and it also knows when to tell you to stop. Like it will think for 2 minutes and tell you not to change anything instead of hallucinating a bunch of stuff "wrong" |

Some of these fixes would take days and I remember one that took me two weeks straight to get working in prod. today - claude/codex one-shot full features overnight a few tweaks here and there but never errors to fix.

Even summer 2025 you'd see a case quote it gave you and just think "ah fuck this is too good to be true" and... it was. It's a legit legal research tool, and in another year of this rate of improvement it'll be usable for legal writing too (by good lawyers; it's already a gamechanger for shitlawer, but that work was already so form-heavy it's hard to say that the disappearance of writing was all that huge).
I agree completely that regular people's perception is being unduly dragged down by Google Answers' retardation. |
