"In the 2024 election, Massachusetts and Oregon are voting on significant measures regarding the legalization and regulation of psychedelics:

Massachusetts - Question 4: This ballot measure seeks to create a regulated framework for psychedelic-assisted therapy. If passed, it would allow adults over 21 to legally access and use specific natural psychedelics—such as psilocybin, psilocin, DMT, mescaline, and ibogaine—within licensed therapeutic centers. It also permits limited home cultivation and personal use of these substances, which advocates see as a valuable alternative treatment for mental health conditions, particularly PTSD and depression. This measure has drawn both support from veterans and mental health advocates and opposition over concerns about unregulated home use

.

Oregon - Expanding Access: Oregon is already a pioneer in psychedelics, having legalized psilocybin therapy in regulated centers in 2020. This year, voters are considering new regulations to potentially expand access to these services and refine existing guidelines. Oregon’s experience thus far includes supervised therapy with licensed facilitators in approved centers, though there has been criticism about high session costs and limited insurance coverage

These measures reflect a growing national interest in using psychedelics for therapeutic purposes and could pave the way for future policies if they are successful."
